Inventor Dean Kamen previews the prosthetic arm he is developing at the request of the US Department of Defense. His quiet commitment to using technology to solve problems -- while honoring the human spirit -- has never been more clear.
This presentation was made at TED in August 2007, but the motivation for this extremely busy and talented inventor came at the request of DARPA. Basically, they had (at the time) 1,600 men that came back with at least 1 arm missing and all that was available was a stick and a hook. Dr. Kamen has since developed something that is nothing less than jaw dropping. I understand the emotion in that statement since I have a relative with the same issue...
The presentation lasts 7:06 minutes - (video after the break).
